"US" A Poem by Gabriel Thomas

I'll give her this,

she had Gall.

She moved in and I thought:

Now the goodness will come.

I was helping her.

She'd get back on her feet.

We'd start fresh, start good.

We'd lay, and eat, and drink,

and grow old and FAT, till the end.

Us.

We did lay.

We did drink.

She didn't get on her feet.

She delved further in.

I came along.

And with her, as I fell,

I looked into the deepness of it all.

I looked into a black meaninglessness.

There was no bottom to it.

There was no end in it.

I lost the hope of Us.

I let go.

I let go to rise out,

but she dug in.

Her nails. Her teeth. Her mind. Her body.

I lost a lot of skin with her.

I lost a lot money.

I lost some of my mind.

I lost everywhere.

One thing I lost,

the thing I miss the most,

it was the hope of us

that illusion.

I'll never have that again.
